INDIA PROVIDES ASSISTANCE OF US$ 1 MILLION TO MYANMAR FOR EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

Government of India had announced an assistance of US$ 1 million for humanitarian relief and rehabilitation in the areas affected by the severe earthquake in Shan State in March 2011.

Following up on this announcement, a cash assistance of US$ 250,000 has been handed over today to H.E. U Wunna Maung Lwin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar by H.E. Dr. V.S. Seshadri, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, for conveying to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar.


The remaining sum of US$ 750,000 will be utilized for projects and supplies for the earthquake victims. Details of these projects are being worked out in consultation with the concerned authorities of Myanmar.
