ITEC Programme

The Government of India is implementing the Human Resource Development (HRD) cooperation with Myanmar under different schemes such as Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, and various scholarships offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Special Course for ASEAN Diplomats. The areas of training range from courses in English language, Information Technology, Computer Application to Agriculture, Remote Sensing, Industries, Urban Development, Parliamentary Studies, Mass Communication, Management, SME/Rural Development, Specialized Courses, Technical Courses, Environment and Renewable Energy Courses and other related areas. In addition, the HRD Wing has also been arranging training in Hindi language for students of Indian origin. Most of these schemes include to and fro air fare, living allowance, book allowance and free study tours.

The HRD Cooperation Programme was launched in Myanmar in 1996 and details of scholarships offered are as under:

The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) has been very popular programmes and a large number of participants from different ministries of Myanmar Government attended various courses offered under these two scholarships. Over 48 institutes from both government and private sectors offer a choice of more than 200 courses (short & long term). Slots allotted to Myanmar under ITEC have increased from 30 in 1996 to 240 in the year 2019-2020.

Government of India’s initiative in introducing new modalities for delivery of ITEC programme viz.e-ITEC in line with the changing needs and technology advancements. The first special online course on “Big Data Analytics with Apache Spark in Python” (eight weeks or total of twenty to twenty four hours of instruction) under e-ITEC initiated by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras with MIIT, Mandalay. The course commenced on 7 October 2019 which was inaugurated by Indian External Affairs Minister by streaming the online video of the class.
