Press Release-Celebration of 1st International Day of Yoga

The Embassy of India in partnership with Ministry of Sports, Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is organizing a Yoga demonstration with commentary on June 21 from 0800 - 10.00 hrs at the Thuwana National Indoor Stadium, Yangon to mark the 1st International Day of Yoga. 
 
The event is expected to be attended by high ranking dignitaries from Myanmar including Union Ministers, Deputy Unions Ministers, Regional Government officials, celebrities, distinguished Myanmar citizens and large number of locals from various walks of life.  
 
The event will include demonstration of three stages of yoga postures, common yoga protocol which is for beginners, intermediate yoga postures and advanced postures to be demonstrated by 500 yogis drawn from various yoga associations/practitioners in Myanmar.  The demonstration would be accompanied by commentary on each posture and its benefits by Yoga instructors in Myanmar language.  
 
Yoga is an invaluable gift to mankind. It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to health and well being.  The United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014, designated June 21 as the 'International Day of Yoga' recognizing the benefits of practicing Yoga for holistic approach to health and well-being of the world's population.
 
The Embassy of India would invite one and all to come and witness the yoga demonstration and take advantage of this opportunity to draw benefits from the invaluable gifts of Yoga.
